The Canopi is a tent resort planned as a placeholder for further larger development at the Eastern end of the new man-made Crystal Lagoon in Bintan. The brief therefore called for an integrated masterplan of a tent resort complete with an outdoor family area, spa and reception area. An Eastern Arrival Plaza was also to be positioned adjacent to the resort and double as the all-day Dining.
The underlying concept was to maximize natural cooling through copious overhands and optimal cross ventilation between spaces. In response, the tents were therefore made fully openable, while ‘plug-in’ bathroom modules were deliberately made semi open. The Arrival Plaza was also design as a cruciform on plan with the central spine elevated, offering breath-taking views out towards the lagoon the moment one arrives.
