The layout of the original apartment created a separation between the living and dining area, and that offered a design opportunity to relook into the relationship between the living and dining areas.

We visited the owner's previous rented property and found that this relationship proved to be important within a social setting and bedroom spaces were secondary. It was therefor an obvious strategy to enlarge the living space while diminishing the otherwise large common bedrooms into the backdrop which we now term the "jewel box" given its prominence in the space.

It was also part of the brief to have an interior space that fits the look and feel of her existing oriental furniture. Traditional Chinese motifs were therefore simplified and applied to the TV console display and detailing of the carpentry.
