TENT RESORT DEVELOPMENT &
EASTERN ARRIVAL PLAZA
The Tent resort and arrival plaza is part of a larger masterplan of residential and hotel developments surrounding a man-made crystal clear water lagoon in an up and coming region in Bintan. A tent resort was planned for at the Eastern end of the lagoon as a placeholder for a future larger development.
The brief was therefore a wholistic one in which we were assigned to create an integrated masterplan of a tent resort complete with outdoor family areas, spa and reception area. The Eastern Arrival plaza that was to be positioned adjacent to the resort was therefore to double up as the All-day Dining as well as an arrival plaza for guests who intend to use the lagoon, a bar and changing room.
The underlying idea behind the entire developement was one to maximise natural cooling through copious overhangs and optimal cross ventilation between spaces. sides of the tents were therefore made fully openable while the "plug-in" bathroom modules were deliberately made semi open. the Eastern arrival plaza was also designed as a cruciform on plan with the central spine elevated, offering breathtaking views out towards the lagoon the moment one arrives.
